John Webster and another employee sufferd burns to their faces, hands and legs at North West Gases.Also a third employee sustained minor injuries as a result of the explosion, which was powerful enough to lift the roof off the building.
The court heard that Mr Webster and another employee, who didnt want to be named, were attempting to remove the valve on an LPG cylinder when the explosion accured on
April 10, 2008.
Mr Webster had failed to ensure the cylinder was empty and also that there was no potential ignition source before starting work.
So as a result of Mr Webster's neglagence, gas escaped from the cylinder and ignited. The resulting fire and explosion set Mr Webster's clothing alight and his employee was thrown across the building. Both men were treated in a specialist burns unit and the employee suffered post-traumatic stress disorder.
